In Senegal, the opponent Ousmane Sonko, detained since the end of July on various charges including calling for insurrection, announced this Monday evening that he was resuming his hunger strike which he had stopped at the beginning of September. Ousmane Sonko, declared candidate for the February presidential election, is at the heart of a legal drama that has kept the country in suspense for more than 2 years.

Liberia is heading for a rematch of the 2017 presidential runoff with a duel between incumbent George Weah and opponent Joseph Boakai, leading the first round and neck-and-neck, according to provisional results from more than 90% of the votes.

Still unknown to the Senegalese a few months ago, Nicaragua is now on everyone’s lips. The small Central American country has indeed become a destination of choice for migrants wishing to reach the United States. Nicaragua does not require a visa for Senegalese who travel there by plane to then reach by road the border with Mexico, which has reopened to asylum requests since last May following more than 3 years of closure due to Covid. This is a perilous and very expensive journey.
