In Saudi Arabia, full-face clothing has been banned in exam halls

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia bans women’s full-face veil (abaya) in exam halls. The decision is made by the Saudi Education and Training Evaluation Commission, which is in charge of educational institutions and training systems along with the Ministry of Education. The commission clarified that female students will not be allowed to wear full face coverings in the examination halls.

Female students must wear school uniform in the examination halls. But the commission also stated that generally modest dress codes should be followed. Although many women in the country continue to wear the abaya, in 2018, Saudi Arabia announced that the abaya would no longer be enforced.

What is Abaya?

An abaya is an outer garment worn by women in the Middle East, particularly in Saudi Arabia. A loose head-dress of black color covers the entire body. Hands, head and feet are also covered. Although it is traditionally black, there are also people who wear pale blue and pink abayas.
