The Saas-Fee mountain railways had an exceptional 2021-2021 financial year. Its turnover exceeded the 30 million franc mark for the first time (30.58 exactly) and the profit doubled to 7.1 million.
Lots of positives
In the Walliser Bote, the director of the Saastal Bergbahnen, Simon Bumann, presents a host of explanations for this success. He evokes the Covid effect which has kept the Swiss in the country and which has attracted foreign skiers taking advantage of the weak Swiss restrictions. In an Olympic year, the Upper Valais resort welcomed a lot of athletes in preparation on its glacier.
Add to this an ideal planning of the school holidays and good weather conditions and Saas-Fee ended up with a perfect alignment of the elements boosting attendance.
High investments
For the financial year 2022-2023, the Saas-Fee mountain railways have planned to invest 9.4 million, of which 6 million for its railway installations.
