  • Last chance or furnace out? In the social documentary “Rosins Heldenküche” (Kabel Eins), ten candidates fight for a perspective.
  • This not only pushes the participants to their limits, but also Frank Rosin.
  • The star chef was initially surprised by his own emotions – and diligently distributed second chances.

As you know, there is a rough tone in the kitchen. There would have to be a star chef Frank Rosin but actually be tough. But behind the hard shell lies a very soft core: In his new social documentary “Rosins Heldenküche – Last Chance Traumjob” (six episodes, Thursdays, 8:15 pm, Kabel Eins), the 55-year-old even fought back tears. “It’s so incredibly emotional for me! I didn’t expect it to bother me like that,” he admitted.

The concept of his new “social project” is easy to tell: Rosin wants to give ten candidates who cannot get a foothold on the “normal” job market (school dropouts, previous convicts, ex-junkies) the chance of an apprenticeship. Not only is there space in his own star kitchen, apprentices might also find work with well-known colleagues from the top gastronomy. Provided that they show for two months in “Rosins Heldenküche” that they have what it takes.

The maître is aware of his responsibility: “I also have three children, and if I imagine they would be in such a situation, then I would shit my pants with fear!” He admitted frankly. Indeed, there is a lot at stake for the participants.

There would be Pia, for example: in her 26 years of life, she only worked four months. The mother of two cannot produce a school leaving certificate either: “I stayed seated a couple of times”, she revealed, “until at some point I was sitting in the class with the little ones and was ashamed. I never went there”.

29-year-old Andre has already written over 1000 applications. But since he has a criminal record for fraud, he waits in vain for an acceptance. Andre also wants to change his life for his son, who is currently living in the home.

There were only nine left!

Let’s go! At the beginning, Rosin and his protégés set the rules: respect, order and hygiene, hard work, punctuality and willingness to learn are essential for the maître. And very important: You should of course also show up what turned out to be a problem on the second day in “Rosin’s Heldenküche”.

Brian, an ex-drug addict with a home history, had slept and then locked himself at home out of shame. He did not open the door to Master himself either. The next morning he dared to go back to work. Rosin buttoned it. Attempts to explain: “My rhythm is screwed, I get up in the evening and go to sleep during the day!” The star chef gave mercy to justice: “All heroes have a story. And everyone here needs a second chance every now and then.” And Brian got it now: “Only if it happens once more, then we should end it together!”

Katharina was less fortunate: the 24-year-old, who grew up in a children’s village, mightn’t handle the cameras and didn’t let Rosin calm her down either. There were also other difficulties: “Katharina was not able to cut an apple, let alone hold a knife,” explained the cook. A notification of illness was followed by exclusion from the broadcast. “The burden of this entire project is too great for you. I cannot take the responsibility,” said Frank Rosin a power word.

Tears of joy at the Wiener Schnitzel Challenge

After so many problems, Rosin was grateful for any support, especially from his prominent Viennese colleague Alexander Kumptner. The 38-year-old acted as a juror at a Wiener Schnitzel Challenge. The winner received an internship in Kumptner’s restaurant. However, Rosin’s protégés messed up the start: Nobody thought of preheating a stove. “Everything that takes the longest is done first,” scolded Frank. “You don’t clean your bum and then go to the bathroom!”

But the result was impressive. Kumptner was particularly impressed by Andres Schnitzel-Künsten. “When I tried it, I thought it would be with my grandmother when I was little,” praised the Austrian. Andre burst into tears: “I’m glad that I make someone cry because they do it so well. You can be really proud of yourself!”

A heart for Mirco

Meanwhile Mirco had to fear for his place in “Rosins Heldenküche”. The 22-year-old complained regarding his aching kneecap. But the cook didn’t buy his suffering from him: “Mirco is a little whisker! He wants an excuse.” When Mirco was finally on sick leave, Rosin actually wanted to throw him out.

But the pleading of the former home child might soften Rosin’s heart: “You don’t know what to expect at home,” said Mirco. “These negative vibrations. ‘You didn’t make it once more! We told you! What a no-good!'” The celebrity chef offered to return following his sick leave: “Actually, I wanted to tell him that the trip is over for him today is. But he’s right, then I’m no different from the ones who have let you down until now! ”
