The Saudi Smart Grid Congress, which started on December 12, 2022 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is hosted by the Saudi Ministry of Energy. It brings together nearly 100 professionals, 2.500 participants et 70 exhibitors of all segments of the electrical energy industry, said the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) in a press release.
This event was thus an opportunity for Abderrahim El Hafidi to present, in his capacity as President of the Arab Electricity Union, the reform projects put in place to modernize the Union since it was brought to his presidency in 2018, says ONEE.
Among these projects, the strengthening of its position at regional and international level following the example of the world’s leading organizations in the energy sector, through the modernization of the structures of the Arab Electricity Union, its mechanisms and its organization, as well as through the adoption of a new system of its governance.
“One of the most salient challenges of this reform is to improve the efficiency and performance of electrical systems in the Arab world, as well as the development of technologies, including investments technical and financial aspects of smart gridsthrough an integrated vision of transmission network managers in order to allow greater flexibility and reliability of electrical systems”, underlines ONEE.
And to note that this new reform will enable the Union to implement electrical interconnection projects between Arab countries, and the establishment of a common Arab electricity market as the ultimate goal.
Referring to the prospects for the energy sector, Abderrahim El Hafidi emphasized the need to the integration of new technologies in electrical systems such as smart grids, which have demonstrated their very high capacity to modernize energy systems through self-healing designs, supply and consumption control systems and monitoring mechanisms remotely, in addition to storing energy by intelligent, reliable and sustainable means.
