From Friday, April 19, the public will have the opportunity to see the new CUPRA Tavascan at the Riga auto show AUTO 24, which will remain in Riga until the end of the auto show on April 21.
in 2019 At the Frankfurt Motor Show, CUPRA unveiled the Tavascan prototype, which it called a “brand dream” at the time. Now the company’s first electric SUV coupe is ready to hit the roads. It conveys the Spanish manufacturer’s passionate desire to create vehicles that are emotional, rule-breaking and appeal to a new generation of car fans.
The Tavascan is the brand’s second all-electric car following the Born model. It embodies CUPRA’s electrification vision while retaining the characteristics of the 2019 electric concept car.
“The brand’s journey to electrification is at the heart of everything we do. CUPRA until 2030 will transform into a fully electrified brand. There are so many exceptionally rational electric cars on the market right now. But that’s not what CUPRA is regarding, CUPRA CEO Wayne Griffiths noted. – In 2019, we nurtured a vision to change the direction of electrification deployment: we wanted to show the world that electric cars can be fun and sexy, with great design and unique sportiness. It was just a dream then. “CUPRA Tavascan is our dream come true.”
The Tavascan has added to the Spanish marque’s electrified lineup, joining the all-electric Born and plug-in hybrid versions of the Leon, Leon Sportstourer and Formentor. Until 2025 CUPRA will enter a new era with new electrified models – the Terramar and UrbanRebel – and an updated range.
Developed and perfected in Barcelona, the Tavascan will be produced at the Volkswagen Group’s Anhui plant in China, the world’s most advanced e-vehicle. at the Mobility Innovation Center.
Sportsmanship is emphasized
The Tavascan measures 4,644 mm in length, 1,861 mm in width and 1,597 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,766 mm. Built on the MEB electric car platform of the Volkswagen group, the new SUV coupe uses the latest technologies of the group: powertrain, chassis, communication services, safety and comfort systems.
The electric car will be offered in two power versions: the Endurance model will be equipped with a 210 kW (286 hp) electric motor on the rear drive axle, and the VZ version will be equipped with two electric power plants with a power of 250 kW (340 hp). These motors will be mounted on both axles, so the EV will have all-wheel drive for performance and maximum traction with 545 Nm (rear motor) and 134 Nm (front motor) of torque respectively. From 0 to 100 km/h. Tavascan VZ will be able to accelerate in just 5.6 seconds.
Selectable driving modes – longer range, comfort, performance, CUPRA, individual options and more traction (in the all-wheel drive version) – will allow the driver to better adapt to different conditions.
The SUV is equipped with DCC Sport adaptive chassis technology, sports suspension and a variable strength power steering system. These technologies, combined with higher performance tires mounted on 21-inch forged alloy wheels, will provide an exceptional sports driving experience.
It is also possible to choose 19 or 20 inch rims. Aerodynamic wheel covers will better direct air flows, reduce turbulence and help maximize the efficiency of the electric car.
Up to 550 km driving distance
In the middle of the Tavascan is a battery mounted with water-cooled prismatic lithium-ion cell modules. The battery is housed in an aluminum structure that is fully integrated into the body, allowing for increased stiffness and reduced weight. Such a design ensures the best balance between the car’s center of gravity and the effect of the battery’s weight, which allows to improve the dynamic characteristics of the electric car.
In the Endurance version, the 77 kWh battery pack with rear-wheel drive allows a range of regarding 550 km according to the official WLTP test cycle. The top-spec, twin-engine, all-wheel-drive Tavascan VZ gets around 520km on the same battery.
The efficiency of the system is increased by the heat management system. It maintains the temperature of the battery and ensures that it remains optimal. The battery is equipped with a plate with channels connected to the coolant circuit.
Optionally, the Tavascan model can be equipped with a heat pump, which allows for more efficient heat management in the cabin. This device is especially useful in colder outdoor temperatures.
The new electric car can charge enough energy to drive 100 km in 7 minutes. And when the battery power level drops to 10 percent, its power reserves up to 80 percent. can be topped up in less than half an hour if a 135 kW charger is used.
The electric car can be connected to both AC and DC charging networks, so charging it is a hassle-free process. With the CUPRA Easy Charging App, everything related to charging can be precisely controlled: no matter what charging infrastructure is used.
In turn, the My CUPRA App allows you to remotely control the climate, charge the battery and lock and unlock the car.
Impulse for a new design language
The Tavascan model gives impetus to the brand’s new design language, which further accentuates athletic and sporty proportions. The signature of the car is the front matrix LED lights with a three-triangle outline. The function of the matrix lights ensures a completely autonomous car lighting system: the high beams not only turn on or off by themselves, but also do not dazzle the oncoming drivers or those moving in the same direction.
The interior of the car is characterized by a characteristic central part with thin, almost invisible ventilation openings. As standard, the Tavascan will be equipped with race car profile seats. Even sportier CUP Bucket seats will be offered later.
For the convenience of users, not only the interior space is optimized, but also the trunk volume – 540 liters of luggage can be stored under the electrically operated cover.
Next generation user interface
The Tavascan infotainment system is controlled via a 15-inch diagonal screen, the largest ever used in a CUPRA model. For extremely well-personalized and easy-to-manage multimedia, the manufacturers have created a completely new user interface. In addition, Tavascan features a high-quality 12-speaker audio system for the first time, developed in collaboration with premium segment audio system manufacturer Sennheiser.
The driver has the opportunity to create up to three configurable controls, the infotainment system can be set according to individual needs. The Wireless Full Link system used in the electric car also provides Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.
On the augmented reality projection screen on the windshield, the driver sees all the most important information: from speed and navigation system readings to auxiliary system indicators. Manufacturers paid great attention to the latter, so many advanced electronic driver assistants are installed in the electric car.
Here’s the new version of the Connected Travel Assist feature, which works more precisely by using data from cloud computing, which is especially useful on wrongly marked roads.
The new Car2x system installed in the car connects with other vehicles. In this way, road information regarding emergency vehicles, broken down vehicles, accidents or the like is shared among themselves and emergency situations are prevented in advance.
