Opposition leader María Corina Machado and Edmundo González Urrutia called for Saturday, August 17 a concentration on Francisco de Miranda Avenue, near the Líder shopping center, in Caracas.

The protesters began to gather at approximately 10:00 a.m., most of them carrying Venezuelan flags and signs with copies of the voting records that claim Gonzalez’s victory in the presidential elections of July 28.

Those who attended also chanted slogans against the results issued by the National Electoral Council (CNE) that gave victory to Nicolás Maduro.

Maria Corina Machado is led the rally at approximately 1:20 p.m. In his statements, he reiterated the victory of Edmundo González as president-elect of Venezuela with more than 80% of the electoral records that can be validated through the website Presidential Results Venezuela 2024.

“We have established a new parameter for defending the citizen vote. What happened on July 28 surprised the regime (…) They never imagined that more than 12 million Venezuelans would go to vote,” said the leader.

Machado said that street actions will continue and asked citizens not to fall for provocations and instead maintain a civic attitude in respect for peaceful protests.
