A dog that was reported missing has finally found its owner…following eight years on the run!

It all started in early 2014, when Betsy DeHaan’s pit bull strayed a bit too far from her family’s home in Fort Myers, Florida.

A few hours following the dog’s disappearance, Betsy’s family began a search to locate Harley in the woods, without success.

The DeHaan family then proceeded to install posters with the inscription “Lost Puppy” in the residential streets of the neighborhood.

Despite the dog’s microchip, it was not enough to locate the adventurous animal.

Eight years later, Betsy isn’t even a Florida resident anymore. She now lives in Missouri, a sign that the hope of finding the dog was dashed.

However, friends of the family who live in Florida recently spotted a dog that looks like Harley.

Hope was present, since Angie, Betsy’s friend, spotted the animal less than 30 kilometers south of their initial home.

The dog was in poor condition and looked malnourished. Angie immediately transported the beast to the Cypress Lake Veterinary Hospital.

Lee County veterinary officials, using her microchip, were able to confirm that the dog was indeed Betsy DeHaan’s.

The mother was contacted by the veterinary hospital. She did not believe the information described by the veterinarian.

“I received the message last Saturday. I was sure it was a mistake. Besides, we had just talked regarding Harley that morning. Anyway, when I learned it was true, I immediately went to my car,” says Betsy.

In total, the woman traveled more than 1770 kilometers to finally be able to hug her pet.

“Oh my God! Oh my God!” exclaimed Betsy DeHaan when they were reunited.
