A suspicious fire broke out Saturday followingnoon in a residential building located at the corner of Saint-Laurent and Prince-Arthur streets, in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough, in Montreal.
The blaze broke out around 1:30 p.m. following the fire started outside between a garage and nearby garbage cans, said Patrick Fournel, section chief at the Montreal Fire Safety Service (SIM).
The fire progressed rapidly, forcing the triggering of a 4th alarm.
Nearly a hundred firefighters were present on the scene at the height of the blaze, which required 3.5 hours of intervention before being brought under control.
No injuries were reported in the event. The damage mainly extended to the rear of the building, affecting garages.
The evacuated residents were therefore able to return to their homes at the end of the intervention.
The origin of the fire being considered suspicious, the file was transferred to the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) for investigation, it was specified.
