A major fire broke out on Wednesday followingnoon at the premises of Serres Toundra, in Saint-Félicien, in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean.

The firefighters received a first call around 3:56 p.m. for a fire that would have started in an electrical substation located in one of the three greenhouses of the cucumber production company.

According to the first hypotheses, a problem with a transformer would be involved in the fire.

35 firefighters were quickly dispatched to the scene to fight the blaze.

Firefighters from the nearby town of Normandin were also called in to help.

The fire occurs shortly before an important information meeting, which was to take place Wednesday evening, to announce a major investment of $500 million.

This sum was to be used to finance seven new phases of expansion of the company.

Les Serres Toundra were the target of many complaints from citizens for light pollution.

A research team visited the company’s site last September to assess the level of light pollution produced by the cucurbit plant.
