The sliding operation of an overpass in the Cap-de-la-Madeleine sector, in Trois-Rivières, will be entirely carried out overnight from Friday to Saturday.
As the first tests had not been conclusive, the working method had to be completely changed.
Thus, the 430-ton structure will be moved 25 meters to its final location, supported by metal containers on two sturdy self-propelled hydraulic trailers, each with 14 axles and 112 wheels.
“We see that the lifting equipment is mounted on containers on which there are transfer beams and different pieces of wood that rest under each of the beams of the deck. Subsequently, this equipment goes on wheels. The lifting is done from the axles, the 14 axles per trailer, and we move towards its position 20 or 25 meters from its current position,” explained Anne-Sophie Richard, project manager for Transports Québec.
One night will be enough to set up the viaduct.
This is the second time in Quebec that we have turned to this way of doing things, the objective of which is to minimize the impact of the construction site on automobile traffic.
