The blaze, which broke out around 5:30 a.m., reportedly started in a housing cooperative located on rue Maisonneuve, in Chicoutimi-Nord.
“At the height of the fire, 25 to 30 firefighters were working to control the flames,” said the chief of operations of the Saguenay fire department – Chicoutimi borough. The latter added that the fire is under control and that the teams still present continue to work on hot spots.
Several families are on the street and the Red Cross has arrived on site to offer them support and relocate them.
The homes affected by the flames date back 30 years.
