The twenty-member delegation of the dance group from Taiwan “International Folkdance Association of Taiwan” led by Vincent Hsu, TaiPei university professor and teacher of the group, was hosted in Patras by the Dance Department of the Municipality.
The Taiwanese group, which is a lover of Greek culture and dances Greek dances, is making a fortnight visit to our country to get to know the folk culture of the Greeks.
From Sunday 14th to Tuesday 26th July he made Patras the stop of his journey. Accompanying the mission was Kyriakos Moisidis, a researcher and teacher of Greek folk dance, especially Pontic, with seminars in Greece and abroad, and president of the association “CYCLOS” in Thessaloniki.
On the afternoon of Sunday, July 14, they visited the City Hall, where they were welcomed and shown around by the Mayor of Patras, Kostas Peletidis. Mr. Peletidis pointed out the relations of mutual respect between two peoples with a long history and referred to the path of the city of Patras and its positive role in today’s reality.
As part of the visit, there was an exchange of gifts and treats and then the members of the delegation left for the Dance Department room where a video presentation of the wider area was held by members of the Dance Department and they were taught dances from all over the Peloponnese by Christos Giannopoulos, the head of the Dance Department and teacher.
The first day ended in Pournarokastro at the “refuge” tavern with a live orchestra party with Giorgos Stavropoulos Guitar – singing, Vangelis Filippakopoulos bouzouki, Vasiliki Lotsari and Ziakou Ioanna singing who danced with their soul even dances of their homeland.
On Monday, July 15, they visited Olympia and the archaeological sites. On the morning of Tuesday, July 16, there was a tour of the city’s sights and a visit to I.N. of St. Andreas (some of the guests are Christians), the archaeological museum, Achaia Klaus tasting black bay white and red wine.
After free time in the city, the delegation found themselves in Saravali, the “courtyard of peace” where, together with the wonderful view of the whole city, they tasted wonderful mezes.
The dancers – trios of the Dance Company of the Municipality of Patras presented dances from the Peloponnese and folk dances from our city and of course Zorba in similar costumes and delighted the members of the mission.
The evening with the sounds of Senich Undeger violin, Giorgos Michallopoulos guitar – singing, Vangelis Filippakopoulos bouzouki, Vasilki Lotsaris and Ziakou Ioanna singing, turned into a wonderful feast with all the patrons participating together with the guests practicing kindness, acceptance and showing Greek hospitality in practice.
