in Paris the passes are “dezoned” on weekends.

A brilliant idea to import from Paris: there, on weekends, the passes are “dezoned”. A traveler can go anywhere in Ile-de-France (the equivalent of the AMT territory) by public transport regardless of its subscription area.

Thus, if a similar measure were implemented on AMT territory, a Montrealer holding an STM Hebdo CAM might take advantage of it, on Saturdays and Sundays, to do the following activities, without having to buy expensive additional single ticketswhich surely discourages many Montrealers from making an overseas expedition…:

  • go explore Vieux-Terrebonne (current price for this trip: $8.60 round trip, plus the special $3 ticket at the Montmorency metro on the way back, i.e. $11.60)
  • take your bike on the Deux-Montagnes train and explore Oka Park (current price for this trip: $14 round trip)
  • have a drink on a terrace in Vieux-Longueuil (current price for this trip: $6.40 round trip, plus the special $3 ticket at the Longueuil metro for the return trip, i.e. $9.40)
  • go kayaking on the Rivière des Milles-Îles or even go shopping near Laval (current price for this trip: $6 round trip, plus the special $3 ticket at the Montmorency metro station for the return trip, i.e. $9).

At such fares, it is not surprising that the traveler who only goes to the suburbs occasionally is not tempted to go there by public transport. A measure regarding which we should meditate on the side of the AMT…
