In Oman, those whose visas have expired will not be fined until September 1

The Ministry of Labor has announced that those who have expired visas in Oman will not be fined until September 1. This benefit is available to those who renew by August 31.

The opportunity to renew a visa without penalty is a great relief to expatriates. The Ministry of Labor announced yesterday that the visa-related penalty has been waived until September 1. Renewals can be availed till August 31. However, the revised visa rates will come into effect from June 1, the ministry said.

The Ministry of Labor had recently issued new visa fees following the directive of Sultan Haitham bin Twarikh. Under the new rates, the visa fee for those working in the highest category will be 301 riyals.

As of May 1 last year, the visa fee for this category has been 2001 riyals. Companies and institutions that fully implement the government-mandated nationalization rate will receive a visa fee waiver of up to 85 percent. The decision to reduce visa fees is expected to play a major role in Oman’s growth.
