In New Zealand, petrol pumps were not working. Leap year was to blame — Forbes

Leap year repeats with iron regularity every four years. Nevertheless, many companies and companies are not quite ready for it – and every February 29th is accompanied by hiccups, failures and problems, wrote the news website The New York Times.

There have been instances of computers shutting down, sat navs failing and airport conveyor belts refusing to move luggage onto planes.

And this year, dozens of self-service gas stations in New Zealand have stopped working, where drivers of cars and trucks have reported problems filling up the tank since morning.

“Motorists were driving to them but they couldn’t get to the fuel,” said Julien Leys, a spokesman for Gull New Zealand, which was among those affected by the outage. “It was incredibly frustrating for our customers.”

Drivers were unable to pay for fuel because the software used by payment terminals at gas stations “couldn’t be set to the date of February 29,” Leys added.

From porn to stardom and fall. Where does the trail of the Wirecard scandal lead?

The problem affected all self-service petrol stations across the country, as all the companies selling fuel in New Zealand use one technology provider. Serviced gas stations worked without problems.

Most gas stations in New Zealand are self-service, but self-service pumps are common in rural areas. These are vital for truck drivers who need fuel in remote locations or out of hours.

On the way to reducing emissions. China imported record amounts of LNG

Imports of liquefied natural gas to China rose by fifteen percent year-on-year to 5.5 million tons in February. That’s the highest figure for the month so far and the first time since 2021 that monthly imports have broken a record.
