In Nancy, the Army trains students in a cyberwar between imaginary countries

Faced with global warming and rising water levels which are drowning its beaches, the island of Riverchelles is seeing its economy – dependent on tourism – disrupted. To fill the country’s coffers, there is only one solution: exploit mining resources. Unable to manage it alone, the government of Riverchelles launched a call for tenders from its two neighbors in the same archipelago, Cryptanga and Anumérique.

What follows is an economic war in which no holds barred. Computer hacking, struggle for influence on social networks, lock picking, changing train switches… All this, in a gymnasium at the IUT Nancy-Brabois (Meurthe-et-Moselle), converted into a military camp for ‘occasion. Around ten tents were set up in the room, guarded by soldiers equipped with dummy weapons. Inside, around a hundred Nancy students participate in a cyberwar simulation exercise organized by the armies and the University of Lorraine, from February 5 to 9.
