In Morocco, the pandemic has not slowed down business creation

Kiosk360. A recent Inforisk study devoted to business creation in Morocco shows strong entrepreneurial dynamism. This article is a press review of the weekly La Vie Éco.

“Business creation has never been so dynamic in Morocco”, writes Eco Life in its weekly delivery. According to a recent study by Inforisk, 58,408 companies were created in 2021, up 30% compared to 2020. A figure that denotes “strong entrepreneurial dynamism”, underlines the weekly, with a growth rate 52% between 2018 and 2021 once morest 7% for Tunisia.

According to this study, Morocco alone represents 69% of business creations in the Maghreb in 2020, compared to 19% for Tunisia and only 13% for Algeria. With a predominance for the SARL status with a median share capital of 100,000 dirhams (99.48% of new companies created). For the rest, 0.27% was established as a public limited company, while 0.25 carried other statuses.

As for the distribution of creations, the Greater Casablanca region unsurprisingly takes the lion’s share, by monopolizing 26% of new creations with nearly 14,000 new companies created. The region of Tangier-Tétouan follows with 12%, while the regions of Rabat and Marrakech concentrate 11% each.

According to Eco Life, this dynamism probably comes down to a paradigm shift in the way of living and ensuring income. As Amine Diouri, director of studies and communication at Inforisk, rightly says, quoted in the columns of the weekly. “As 2020 was a very difficult year, with job losses, salary cuts…, several employees turned to entrepreneurship”.

In the eyes of this expert, “it is not a question of creating companies in innovative businesses”, but rather “creating subsistence, the objective of which is to ensure more or less stable income, since the economic situation in 2021 did not necessarily show signs of improvement”.

Evidenced by the figures established by the new Inforisk study: trade centralizes more than 30% of business creations, construction (16%), real estate (19%) and transport (11%). “It is clear that the health crisis has not necessarily led to the emergence of new businesses, since these are essentially creations of resilience”, summarizes the weekly.

Two elements hold the attention of La Vie Eco: the freight transport activity has recovered more strongly than the average, with a share of 12%, while the real estate development sector continues to attract, with a share of 8% .
