The blackout that surprised Venezuelans on Friday, August 30, left the people of Merida at half power for part of the day, since a large number of businesses have auxiliary electrical equipment as a consequence of the years of cuts to the system suffered in the state, managing to make ends meet at least during the first hours of the morning.

After 3 p.m., there were lights in some parts of the state, which were gradually restored, starting with the priority sectors. However, more than half of the state remained in the dark until 10:40 p.m., that is, 17 hours and 50 minutes without electricity.

The blackout particularly affected telecommunications, with intermittent internet service failures extending until Saturday, August 31.

The authorities reportedly informed through social media about the work they were doing to reconnect the service to the Guri network, however, as there was no internet or telephone service, few were able to find out about the announcements.
