The announcement of the reduction of up to 50% in the price of the Soat did not leave motorcyclists happy in Antioch. The union of the two wheels will go out to protest this Wednesday from 10:00 am through the streets of Medellín.

“The minister’s statement was not enough, we still have reasons to protest. There are many motorcyclists die from the holes and the lack of maintenance on the road mayawe claim for the rise in fuel and for more campaigns that raise awareness regarding road safety. We claim by law 2255 of simple collisions, several colleagues have died because at the scene of the accident there is no presence of a neutral person to mediate between the parties”, Alejandro Gómez Murillo, president of the Antioquia Motorcycle Association, told El COLOMBIANO.

The concentration of motorcyclists in Medellín will be in the roundregarding of the North Terminal around 10:00 am, the call was made before the announcement of the Government and aims to replicate in cities like Cali and Bogota.

On Tuesday followingnoon, the Minister of Transportation, Guillermo Reyes, assured that from December 1 drivers of motorcycles with smaller cylinders (150cc or less) will be able to access a 50% discount on the value of the Soat. With this, he assured him, the protests of the motorcyclists were settled.

“With this we want to invite the motorcyclists who had called for a national strike tomorrow (Wednesday) who we have more than met them. The work table fulfilled its purpose”, said Minister Reyes.

The government’s measure aims to shelter 9 million drivers in the country y it would cost the public coffers close to 2 trillion pesos that would be assumed by the tax reform –already approved in congress for 22 trillion pesos–. Despite this, the motorcyclists insist that they still have reason to protest.

“We are going out because we are sucked that the money from the fines is not reinvested in pedagogy and education. We are tired of being banned from driving in more than 100 municipalities. Motorcyclists are not part of the problem, we want to be part of the solution”pointed out Alejandro Rubio, president of the Colombian Association of Motorcyclists (Asomocol).
