But, in fact, where does the name of this square come from? “It’s linked to the twinning with the English city of Boston”, explains Laval Patrimoine, the heritage and mediation service of the City of Laval.
An English town
Flashback: we are in 1957 when the idea of a twinning with an English city germinates in the mind of the mayor at the time, Francis Le Basser. “He contacted a Parisian organization capable of finding a city that would agree to twin with Laval. »
Boston, a town in Lincolnshire, on the east coast of England, would be perfect, because it is similar to Laval: “About the same number of inhabitants, a rural environment…” In 1958, the twinning is done. And the Promenades de Changé then officially became Boston Square.
