In Latvia, almost half of the population, or 49%, does not know how to protect themselves in the digital environment, or this knowledge is incomplete, according to data from a population survey conducted by the training center Baltijas datoru akadēmija LLC of the Tet group, writes LETA.
About one in ten respondents, or 12%, do not know how to protect themselves in the digital environment, but would like to know. Residents with primary and secondary specialized education, unskilled workers, residents with an income below 550 euros per month and pensioners over 60 years of age rate their knowledge as insufficient.
At the same time, 28% of the population believe that they are partially educated in matters of digital security, but this knowledge will need to be updated. Most often, residents over 50 years of age, as well as in the age group from 30 to 39 years old, consider themselves partially educated in this area.
Another 8% do not know their level of digital security knowledge.
The other half, or 51% of respondents, said they were fairly well informed regarding cybersecurity issues and how to protect themselves. Of these, 19% received knowledge from the media, and 18%, mostly young people, looked for educational information themselves. Every tenth or 10% received knowledge from some educational courses, the rest obtained information from other resources.
The survey was conducted by the research agency Norstat Latvija in February 2024 with the participation of 1,011 Latvian residents aged 18 to 74 years.
