“We must create adequate infrastructure in the yards of multi-apartment houses – that is what we strive for and will strive for.” Unfortunately, the situation where there is no place to park a car after returning home has become the norm in Klaipėda over many years. Therefore, we are speeding up the implementation of parking projects and looking for additional opportunities to create as many parking spaces as possible in a shorter time,” says Klaipėda Mayor Arvydas Vaitkus.
The starting project will create 223 parking spaces in the Kaunas street microdistrict, including 7 for people with disabilities, along with the installation of rainwater networks, lighting, and pedestrian paths. The works are expected to be completed within a year.
Work will also start soon at Kauno St. 29, 31, 33, 35, 39, 39A, 41 at home. The public procurement procedures for the selection of the contractor have already been completed, and if the weather is favorable, it is expected to start in December. In the spring, the work zone will expand even more – the installation of parking spaces is also planned to begin at Kauno St. 13, 15, 17, 19, 23, 23A, 25 at home. In total, the above-mentioned three projects in Kauno st. 595 parking spaces will be installed in the microdistrict.
Pilot projects are also being launched, which aim to equip parking spaces wherever possible with simpler means – using eco-products (openwork pavers), helping to preserve more of the natural environment. The first pilot project at I. Simonaitytė st. is expected to be completed this year. 18, 20, 22 houses. There will be about 50 parking spaces here.
“In the coming year, we plan to create additional parking opportunities in twenty yards in the southern part of the city in this way. In total, we plan to install more than 1,300 parking spaces in the city next year, and for this we estimate about 3.8 million euros. Our goal is to install as many parking spaces as possible and thus create favorable conditions for residents of sleeping areas, therefore we will increase the volume of work every year”, says A. Vaitkus.
Currently, the access road to Taikos pr. is also being continued. 101 reconstruction works, during which 26 completely new parking spaces are installed for the convenience of residents. At the same time, rainwater networks are being repaired, the street surface is being reconstructed, and lighting is being installed. The project is planned to be implemented this year.
The large-scale parking development projects started last year are continuing, new parking spaces will appear on J. Janonio Street. 26-28, Malūnininkai str. 2, 10, 8,
Smilties pilimo st. 3, Sportininkų st. 5, 9, Statybininų st. 9-27, Žardininkų str. 2-18. Upon completion of these works, more than 500 parking spaces will be created for the convenience of Klaipėda residents.
