In Kaliningrad, a US citizen received six years in a maximum security prison for trying to take his son out of Russia – September 24, 2024

A US citizen has been sentenced to imprisonment in Russia for attempting to take his young son out of the country. The man was found guilty of kidnapping a minor (clause “d” of part 2 of article 126 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and attempting to cross the state border of the Russian Federation without valid documents for the right to leave (part 3 of article 30, part 1 of article 322 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Details on September 23 were reported by press service Kaliningrad Regional Court.

The court found that on July 27, 2023, the man came to Kaliningrad to meet his four-year-old son, who is a citizen of Russia. Without the mother’s consent, the father tried to take the child out of the country across the border with Poland, making his way with the baby through a forest and a swamp. There, he was detained by officers of the FSB Border Department.

The Leningrad District Court sentenced a US citizen to six years of imprisonment in a maximum security penal colony.
