In Jemeppe-sur-Sambre, the purchase of an apartment by the sea embarrasses the alderman of works

Jean-Luc Evrard, the alderman of the works of Jemeppe-sur-Sambre has no intention of resigning. “This is slander and defamation” he said; in no way did I influence the decision on the sale of this apartment. My only mistake was to participate in discussions regarding it” . What are we talking regarding? A small 47m2 apartment, located in Westende and which the municipality acquired in 2017. A first notary would have estimated its sale price at around 150,000 euros before a second notary took charge of the file and made it press , but only at the coast.

The nephew of the alderman of works having shown interest, he would have first made an offer of 100,000 euros which the college refused before accepting a second one at 105,000 euros to get rid of the property put up for sale, without delay any longer.

The case might have ended there but it aroused suspicions of conflict of interest on the part of the minority: there would therefore have been only one offer? Selling a property on the coast at such a low price? And the person who acquires it is a member of the alderman’s family? For Frédéric Delcommène (Defi), “the doubt is legitimate” and to emphasize that Jean-Luc Evrad participated in the deliberations of the college relating to the sale while the code of local Democracy and Decentralization prohibits it. These various elements led the opposition parties to demand the resignation of the alderman, they also seized the minister in charge as well as the King’s Prosecutor to clarify this case.
