A group of students from the University of Turin who want to study, research and develop bitcoin in Italy have announced that BitGeneration is launching a new program called Bitcoin that will teach Italian high school students.
The university will hold 10 three-hour sessions for third-, fourth- and fifth-graders at local high schools.
“Experts and teachers have already talked regarding bitcoin to some classes in smaller stand-alone initiatives, but BitGeneration has a very different tone. For the first time, an Italian public school is officially accepting bitcoin training. The 30 hours are part of a 300-hour, three-year, compulsory course for all students throughout the country”.
High school students will learn regarding everything from financial inclusion to economics and social structures to computer science and game theory. There will also be hands-on classes focused on demonstrating how to use bitcoin. Courses include creating a wallet, downloading and managing a full node, and mining, for which the university provides an Antminer S9 mining machine.
The initiative was well received by the Italian teaching community. The teachers are very enthusiastic, several of them participated in a three-hour demonstration. One of the members of the group that dreamed up the initiative, Nicolò Terranova, said:
“We would like to expand the project in the future. In the next edition, we will make a documentary that will tell the story of student education from the students’ point of view. We hope that other schools will take the initiative as an example, we are ready to help.”
According to the group’s press release, the 10 lessons will be uploaded to BitPolito’s YouTube channel, so anyone can watch the course for free.
