Java: 127 people were killed in a stampede during a football match in Indonesia. People died in the stampede that followed the violence at the football stadium. The incident took place during a BRI League One match at the Kanjurhan Stadium in East Java.
East Java Provincial Police Chief Niko Afinta said that the violence was carried out by the fans of the losing team. He also informed that tear gas was used to disperse the rioters. Videos of the violence are circulating on social media.
The Indonesia Football Association has expressed regret over the incident. A special team has also been appointed to investigate the incident. Following the incident, the matches in the league were suspended for a week.
