At 3:36 a.m. (France), Earth’s natural satellite found itself simultaneously at its closest level to Earth and directly opposite the sun.

For the occasion, NASA organized a live broadcast of the phenomenon on YouTube overnight with the Italian astronomer Gianluca Masi, while the star will be under the horizon of Rome.
A “super blue moon” not blue at all
The second full moon in a month is called a “blue moon”, a phenomenon that occurs on average every two and a half years. But the star is not blue at all.

The term “blue moon” is taken from the English “once in a blue moon” which designates a situation that occurs only very rarely. The French equivalent of the expression “every 36th of the month”.
