As reported by an Icelandic news portal ruv.is, the eruption began at 20:22 local time.
Tonight at 8:22 p.m. A spokesperson for the Icelandic Meteorological Service issued the following statement:
“Increased seismic activity between Hagafell and Stóra-Skógfell, seismic activity combined with ground changes may indicate that magma flow is starting and the probability of an eruption is increasing.”
The eruption started a minute later.
The Civil Protection Agency is working to pinpoint the location of the eruption. A few minutes later, a helicopter took off to investigate the situation. Civil protection director Víðir Reynisson said the eruption appeared to be in a similar location to the one on December 18. the eruption started, but it was quite far to the north.
Wow! With essentially no warning (as was possible) a new eruption has started just minutes ago on Iceland’s Reykjanes Peninsula. This appears to be in the same location as the first and third eruptions. #Iceland #Eruption pic.twitter.com/cwMQY8cI3Y

V. Reynisson says that the evacuation at the Blue Lagoon is over. It started around the same time as the eruption itself – a few minutes later. However, there are still workers on site.
A press release from the Blue Lagoon stated: “We would like to thank the guests for their understanding, the staff for their professional work and the first responders for their cooperation. The Blue Lagoon units in Svartsengi were closed.”
