In Graulhet in the Tarn, the leather industry is picking up color

On the banks of the Dadou river, in the heart of Graulhet, the 2,000 m2 of Bourdariès industrial wasteland is regarding to return to service. Abandoned for twenty years, the old tannery – testimony to the industrial past of the Tarn city – has just been bought from the town by a local leather goods company, the company Jean-Louis Fourès (40 employees, 3, 4 million euros in turnover in 2021), known under its commercial brand, Les Ateliers Fourès. The objective is to support the growth of the company.

Quite a symbol, in a city of barely 13,000 inhabitants where industrial wasteland often rubs shoulders with residential areas. “It is not a question of hosting housing, nor tertiary activities or even a museum, as was the case for the House of leather crafts, but an industrial project”, enthuses Blaise Aznar, the mayor of Graulhet.
