Windows 11 users who have been experiencing performance issues in their video games since the 22H2 update was rolled out can access a preview version of a permanent fix.
Microsoft has made available a version in preview a patch to fix performance issues experienced by some people. We will still have to wait for a real update deployed to all users, but those in a hurry can already install it on their computer.
A long-term problem
At the end of September, Microsoft had rolled out its big annual Windows 11 update, titled 22H2. Shortly following, playersrs and players using Nvidia graphics cards reported experiencing performance issues in their video games. If the brand had reacted quickly enough by releasing new drivers, the problems persisted and Microsoft seemed reluctant to speak up. The American giant finally spoke at the beginning of November, almost two months following the release of the update.
In a noteMicrosoft admits that the performance issues come from the Windows 22H2 update. “Some games and apps suffer from lower than expected performance or stutter on Windows 11, version 22H2. Affected games and apps inadvertently enable graphics card debugging features, which are not intended for consumer use. »
Temporary solutions
While waiting for a final patch, Microsoft had started by making the decision to block the Windows update on PCs that might suffer these inconveniences. The company has continued its corrective work and now provides a patch to be installed manually. It’s still not a massive rollout of a definitive solution, but it’s already enough to fix the problems. Windows therefore encourages people who had already installed the 22H2 version of Windows and who encounter these performance concerns to install the preview KB5020044, disponible via Windows Update.
It will still be necessary to wait a little before having a global correction of the problem however. The giant encounters some difficulties in terms of the performance of video games, he who wishes to transform Windows 11 into a true platform optimized for gaming. We learned last month that certain virtualization options in Windows 11 might also cause performance issues in video games. Microsoft had published guidelines to follow to avoid them, but there were some risks for novices.
