In full arm wrestling with the FTC for the takeover of Activision-Blizzard, Microsoft has just announced a big change for Xbox France.
The soap opera continues
It is now becoming difficult to count all the twists and turns of the takeover of Activision-Blizzard by Microsoft. the Redmond company wants to acquire the studio at all costs, but the various economic authorities around the world make it difficult for it. Recently, the Federal Trade Commission, the regulatory authority of the American market, decided to suspend the transaction. For good reason: Microsoft would have tried to force the takeover while the CMA, the British regulatory body, had refused the takeover.
Microsoft for its part has therefore embarked on a difficult showdown once morest the FTC and is trying everything for everything. As a reminder, if the transaction does not go through, the Redmond firm will have to pay three billion dollars to Activision-Blizzard in compensation. While waiting to know the outcome of this soap opera, Microsoft announces a change for Xbox France.
Xbox France change de direction
The announcement was shared yesterday via an official statement on the site Xbox Wire. Ina Gelbert, head of Xbox France since September 2019, is preparing to leave her post following twelve years at Microsoft for “embark on an entrepreneurial adventure outside the video game industry.“She will be replaced by Cédric Mimouni, Gaming Category Lead Western Europe since 2021, who arrived at Xbox in August 2013.
First of all, I would like to thank Ina for the quality of her work on the Xbox brand and the efforts made to make it shine in France in many aspects. Ina is my friend and she will be missed. It is with honor and humility that I continue my journey at Xbox, where I have spent the last ten years of my professional life in different roles and different countries. I will put all my energy into continuing to make Xbox a great place for everyone in France. – Cedric Mimouni.
Ina Gelbert thanked her entire team and said she was ready to “carry out a project that (she) has been thinking regarding for a long time.“
After 4 exciting years at the head of Xbox in France, it’s time for me to take a turn in my professional career, and carry out a project that I’ve been thinking regarding for a long time. These past four years have been nothing short of incredible, and I find it hard to measure how lucky I have been to be able to work on so many exciting projects, with such a great team, in an ecosystem rich in creativity and innovation, and above all also promising and unifying. As a woman in the video game industry, I was keen to promote diversity and give more visibility to talented women who contribute to this industry, while encouraging younger people to join us. I am convinced that diversity, and not just gender diversity, is an essential driver of innovation and the success of teams, and I hope that the various initiatives led by Xbox in France have made it possible to highlight this subject in our beautiful industry (…).- Ina Gelbert
