While traveling on a plane in the United States, a retired nurse saved the life of a three-month-old baby Thursday, September 8, reports CNN.

Tamara Panzino surely did not think she would have to face such a situation during her trip. While on board a plane from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Orlando, Florida, USA, the retired nurse saved the life of a three-month-old baby on Thursday (September 8), reports CNN.

The woman heard a flight attendant’s alert: “We have a baby who is not breathing!” Staff then asked if a doctor was on board the Spirit Airlines aircraft.

The retired nurse then ran to the back of the plane. The infant, who was traveling with his father, was no longer breathing. “I didn’t know what to do. I saw a baby, head back, blue lips…I was panicked”she says.

“Total relief”

Tamara Panzino asked the child’s father to hold him while she massaged his sternum “to shake the chest”. Then she pinched the baby “so that he cries and finds his breath”she explains to CNN. “A few minutes later it was a total relief. The baby was back to normal color, her breathing was good and I even heard a heartbeat”, says the retired nurse, who did not need to perform cardiac resuscitation. Faced with this heroic gesture, the company expressed its “deep gratitude to Tamara Panzino for helping this little baby” and congratulated the crew for “its efficiency”.
