In French factories, exoskeletons that are still struggling to convince

At the end of 2022, in the middle of the debate around the postponement of the legal retirement age, Senator François Patriat, president of the RDPI (Renaissance) group in the Senate, declared on Public Senate : “Movers, roofers, people in public works are equipped with exoskeletons… Today, the arduousness is no longer the same.” A statement which immediately sparked controversy, while raising questions regarding the actual deployment of this still little-known equipment. Appeared in France around ten years ago and tested in industry, notably the automobile, logistics, aeronautics, but also agriculture and construction, exoskeletons are mechanical or textile systems covered by employee in order to reduce their exposure to the physical constraints encountered when carrying out a work task.
