In “Duniana”…the colored face of wars
The conditions of war are a source of inspiration for artists, and they produce works that express the suffering of their people or document events from their point of view.
In this week’s episode of “Duniana”, we talk regarding art when it becomes a way of expressing the suffering of wars or an essential tool in mobilization. Historically, artists have used different tools to deal with war, accompanying or confronting it. Art accompanied the war, then, and was a tool for resistance or promotion, as we see models documenting the effects of war, and reflecting the suffering of those who suffered its scourge. However, in many cases, the artistic memory was a deliberate victim of wars, and artists were subjected to persecution, arrest, and even killing, and their artworks were destroyed or banned.
In this episode, Iraqi writer and theater director Awatif Naim, Lebanese plastic artist Katya Traboulsi, visual artist and storyteller Dima Nashawi, and Palestinian director Mira Sidawi participated in this episode.
“Duniana” Wednesday, 5:30 pm GMT and 7:30 Beirut time, on BBC Arabic.
