The Government of Cundinamarca announced this Saturday, February 19, that new support will be provided for the reactivation of peasant marketsin the different municipalities of the department where this activity is carried out.
Firm in its intention to reactivate this activity that is carried out in several municipalities of the territory, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development announced that it will deliver kits worth 40,000,000 pesos to producers interested in advancing this exercise.
The Secretariat reported that to carry out this new benefit, it is working in an articulated manner with the mayors’ offices to identify the associations that carry out this activity.
“From the Ministry of Agriculture we work in an articulated process with the municipal mayors, identifying those associations that carry out this exercise. We are delivering kits worth 40,000,000 pesos with baskets, plank tables, tents and biosafety implements, among other elements, which are essential for this activity”, reported the Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development of Cundinamarca, Viviana Andrea Pulido.
The government took the opportunity to recall that in the 2020 and 2021 periods, with the delivery of implements worth 1,400 million pesos, more than three thousand people were benefited in 50 municipalities of the department.
Likewise, he reported that this year the purpose is reach 34 towns in the department with these kits that aim to benefit Cundinamarca farmers.
The official also explained that those interested in accessing this benefit for farmers’ markets must complete a registration process at the Ministry of Agriculture or communicate by telephone.
“Those interested must register with the Ministry of Agriculture – Marketing Management, or call 3112898936, showing that they actually carry out farmers’ markets in their municipalities and that they require these implements to reactivate this exercise. It is important to bear in mind that with this real estate they can also participate in other fairs in the agricultural sector”, added the Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development of Cundinamarca, Viviana Andrea Pulido.
The Government of Cundinamarca also recalled that the peasant markets are intended to encourage direct purchase from the producer, acquiring fresh food from the department and at very good prices.

Since the previous year, the Government of Cundinamarca and the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá signed a cooperation agreement to guarantee food security in the Bogotá – Cundinamarca Region, through actions that allow for spaces for the distribution and commercialization of products of the Cundinamarca peasantsand develop strategies for the collection, disposal and use of organic waste.
This agreement between the Department and the Capital District is part of the joint regional integration actions led by the Governor, Nicolás García, and the Mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López.
“We will guarantee that the silver goes to the producers, not to the middlemen. Bogotá and Cundinamarca will invest in real events to help peasants have a better quality of life”, stated Governor Nicolás García at the time.
For her part, the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, confirmed that this agreement, signed in the municipality of Choachí, aims to “join efforts to develop the common axes, provided for in the District and Departmental Development Plans and other planning instruments , as well as manage territorial associative schemes with a regional integration approach, aimed at guaranteeing food security in the Capital District and Cundinamarca”.
