In Córdoba, a decrease in consultations and hospitalizations for respiratory infections is reported

So far in the last week, there has been a decrease in the number of consultations and hospitalizations related to Acute Lower Respiratory Infections (ARIB) in boys and girls under five yearsaccording to the Ministry of Health.

Indeed, in these last days only 1523 pediatric consultations were givencompared to the previous week, (week 22) that 1942 were carried out.

Similarly, decreased pediatric hospitalizations compared to the previous week, with 175 hospitalizations in week 23 (current)y 237 in week 22. But still, I know maintained the percentage of consultations at 12% which ended in internmentthe same as the previous week.

Despite the decrease in consultations and hospitalizations, from the Ministry they emphasize the importance of maintaining preventive measures in response to low temperaturessuch as ventilation of closed spaces and hand washing, and avoid attending workplaces or schools in case of presenting symptoms.

Not only that, but health professionals insist on performing early medical consultationsespecially in children under 5 yearsin case of presenting symptoms such as cough, cold, sore throat, stuffy nose, or fever.

Laboratory reports

It was reported that until this week (23), confirmed 1,649 cases of respiratory infections in hospitalized children under five years of age.

Of all the viruses in circulation, the respiratory syncytial (RSV)which causes bronchiolitis, is maintained as that of increased circulationwith the 94% of the samples (1,555). But, at week 23, a decrease in the 40,5% (175), in the number of notifications regarding the previous week (294).

In all other cases:

  • Adenovirus (26),

  • SARS CoV-2 (30),

  • Parainfluenza (13),

  • Influenza (6).

Vaccination

According to the data provided by the Epidemiology Department, regarding the progress of the influenza vaccination campaign, more than 300,000 applied doses were exceeded (301,288). By target group, in boys and girls from 6 to 23 months a 50,9% con first dose and a 34.8% with second dose; in pregnant people the coverage is 38.5%; in health teams, 59.9%; and 31.4% in essential personnel.
