AS an effort to maintain smooth running at the Port of Merak during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr homecoming, PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) revealed that it has transferred its final station from Merak to Cilegon Station.
“There is also something that we did last year and this year we are also transferring the train station in Merak to Cilegon Station,” said Director of Commercial and Services at PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry, Yusuf Hadi on Wednesday (3/4).
The activities of the Merak train station can hamper vehicle traffic coming to the port during the homecoming season. Vehicles were forced to stop waiting for trains, thus hampering the process of loading and unloading vehicles in the port area.
“Even though the port is ready to accommodate or empty, a train is passing, so vehicles wanting to enter have to stop,” he explained.
Yusuf admitted that in transferring the station from Merak Station to Cilegont Station, his party had collaborated with PT KAI and the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub).
“The train will stop until Cilegon, Cilegon Station. For those of you who want to cross, we will prepare a shuttle or public transportation that goes to Merak port for free, so this doesn’t mean that passengers are left to stop and not be handled, but we will accommodate the facilities with free public transportation or transportation ,” he stressed.
