After two complicated years due to COVID, the cinemas gradually found their activities. Despite this, the year 2022 will have been complicated for some, as is the case of the Le Royal cinema in Condé-sur-Noireau (Calvados).
8,000 less admissions compared to 2019
While the year 2019 was a great success for the cinemasespecially for the Le Royal cinema which had totaled 24,783 entrées over the whole year, in 2022, it is a total of 15,891 entrées which was accounted for by the establishment, for a total of 651 sessions during this year.
And result disappointing for the president of the association Cinema Conde, Frédéric Delattre: “The year 2022 was not good compared to 2019, we had 8,000 fewer admissions than in 2019, a loss of around 35%. To make up for this deficit, we would have to make 4,000 more admissions this year compared to 2022 to regain a certain balance. »
Every year the movie theater notably offers certain special evenings, such as for Halloween which had worked very well, and had welcomed 150 people. For some, success was not at the rendezvous:
We also do our Valentine’s Day party, which did not work in 2022 with the arrival of only one couple.
About others events specials at Le Royal cinemathe Viva Mexico festival, which takes place over a weekend during the month of November, where a documentaryand cartoon and one film. For this festival, the documentary welcomed 34 people, the cartoon had done 7 entrées and the film 36.
However, the year 2022 has seen some successes, such as the projection of the film Avatar 2 which had been released in 3D, made 927 entréesTop Gun had meanwhile made 367 entréeswhile the last Spider-Man: No Way Home, had 361 entrées.
A start to 2023 on the rise
After a disappointing 2022 for the Le Royal cinemathe trend is for the moment, rather positive and Frédéric Delattre welcomes it:
“It’s off to a good start since we are currently at more than 1,000 admissions than at the same period in 2022. Spectators are starting to return to the cinema once more. »
For this beginning of the year 2023, the movie theater was only able to organize one special evening, that of Valentine’s Day, which was a little more successful than the previous edition, having welcomed 10 couples this year: “We are going to try to better develop this evening”, explains Frédéric Delattre.
New projects to come?
While the Le Royal cinema wishes for the moment to regain its stability of yesteryear, the president of theCiné Condé Association no news yet animationseven if there will be one from Tuesday, April 18:
For the moment we already want to do well what we are currently doing, then we will think regarding introducing new animations. But this Tuesday, April 18, there will be a special animation on the Mario universe. Starting at 2 p.m., fans of the Mario universe will be able to meet in the cinema room where a video game session will be offered until 3 p.m. After that, the film will be screened: Super Mario Bros.
For the rest of the year, Frédéric Delattre sets out his objectives: “We will also try to redevelop 3D, because there are still quite a few applicants. For 2023, we still want to continue to develop our activities that we offer throughout the year. In particular, we want to recover a good number of spectators, I would like to recover 4,000 admissions this year, that is our objective. »
