The Governor of Antioquia, Andrés Julián Rendón, and the Mayor of Medellín, Federico Gutiérrez, met in Concepción to commemorate the 214th anniversary of Colombia’s Cry of Independence.

The day began with a military parade in honor of General José María Córdova, a prominent hero of the Battle of Ayacucho. “On this very special day, let us remember that we are heirs to a legacy of bravery and determination,” said Governor Rendón.

The governor stressed the importance of working together to build a safer, freer, fairer and more prosperous Antioquia and Colombia. “Today, 200 years following Ayacucho, the homeland is still alive,” he added, quoting the historic words of General Córdova: “Division, head on! Weapons at will! Step forward for the victors!”

July 20, 1810 marked the beginning of a long road towards the constitution of a prosperous and sovereign nation, the governor recalled. Echoing Bolívar’s words, he emphasized the commitment of current leaders to guarantee “security and peace” to the people. “We are here to lead a region along the paths of progress, competitiveness and security,” he said.

For his part, Mayor Federico Gutiérrez highlighted the joint efforts with the governor to defend the territory and transform the lives of the inhabitants of Antioquia. “We are optimistic because we have you, our countrymen, and we have God’s guidance in these turbulent times,” he concluded.
