In commemoration of the International Teachers’ Day, the Teachers of the Year will be awarded

This year, the Teacher of the Year awards will be given to the following pedagogues: information technology teacher expert Snieguola Bagočiene of Vilnius “Sietuvos” pro-gymnasium, methodologist Rita Česoniena, economics and entrepreneurship teacher of Širvintos Laurynas Stuokas-Gucevičiaus gymnasium, methodologist Elena Čiobiena, teacher of Lithuanian language and literature at Venta gymnasium in Akmenė district, Palanga Senosios high school geography teacher expert Nerijas Vaišvilis, Molėtai high school music teacher methodologist Rūta Vekerotiene and Kaunas Food Industry and Trade Training Center vocational teacher expert, head of the Food Technology and Trade Department Rasa Virginija Venteriena.

The awards will be presented by Minister of Education, Science and Sports Gintautas Jakštas.

The purpose of the Teacher of the Year Award established by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports is to evaluate the results of teachers’ professional activities and encourage them to take creative initiatives. The award is given to teachers, student support specialists for the most significant merits in their professional activities in the last five years.

The Meilė Lukšienė prize will be awarded to Ligita Urbonienė, a teacher of geography, nature and human subjects at Panevėžys “Šaltinius” pro-gymnasium.

This prize is awarded for the successful start of pedagogical activities, the implementation and dissemination of the ideas of democracy, humanity, and creativity. The prize winner undertakes to continue and develop the ideas of the famous teacher M. Lukšienė.

The prize of Lithuanian education teacher (lecturer) will be awarded to Professor Ihori Koroliov of the Baltic Studies Center of the Institute of Philology of Taras Shevchenko National University in Kyiv.

Together with Vytautas the Great University, I. Koroliovas participated in the establishment of the Center for Baltic Studies at Kyiv University, and currently heads it. He is also the creator of the bachelor study program “Polish language and literature, English and Lithuanian languages”.

Together with his colleagues from the Institute of the Lithuanian Language and Ukraine, I. Koroliova prepared the first and so far the only bilingual dictionary of Ukrainian and Lithuanian languages ​​in the history of Lithuanian and Ukrainian lexicography, a dictionary of Ukrainian-English-Lithuanian-Polish-Greek-Latin linguistic terminology. Currently, the professor is teaching Lithuanian language to war refugees from Ukraine remotely at the VMU Education Academy.
