“In the past, we used to go to concerts or events to celebrate the day of medical workers, but this year we decided to celebrate this day in a different way than usual – with a march. We spend a lot of time sitting, and hiking was a healthy way to pass the time in an informal setting. The weather was very good, so covering almost 10 km in a few hours was a lot of fun. At the rest area, we cooked healthy soup, played some games, and chatted.

The day of establishment of the Health Commission is important for the holiday
The professional holiday of medical workers has been celebrated in Lithuania since 2004. on the initiative of the Minister of Health Juozs Olekos. He suggested adding this day to the list of Memorial Days. April 27th was chosen because in 1918 April 27 The State Council of the Republic of Lithuania established the Health Commission, the members of which were Dr. Jonas Basanavičius, engineer Professor Steponas Kairys and priest Justinas Staugaitis. Later, Dr. Jurgis Alekna, who returned from Russia, joined its activities and was appointed director of the Health Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Medical gatherings and conferences are organized on this day, and work experience is shared.
