Ina is 14 years old. She is there for her mom. To help him in his associative activities. “My mother’s multiple sclerosis declared itself very young: at 26, I was nine months old. Since then she has been fighting” she said, her eyes full of admiration. As part of the multiple sclerosis festival organized this Saturday on the Allées de la Liberté, Ina was asked to lead an immersive workshop. “The idea being that the public becomes aware of the symptoms of the patients by living them…” explains Odile Frosini, her mother, president of the association, who came to join her.
Ina shows us: she attaches a weight to the wrist of a curious woman and suggests that she simply take the groceries out of a basket and put them on the table. “The idea being to show that when you have multiple sclerosis, the weight of objects is not felt in the same way. As a result, at the end of the day, fatigue is such that, for As for mom, she can’t even serve a glass of water anymore…”
Workshops for the public and for patients
On this festival, most of the workshops are there to show the symptoms of the disease: loss of motor skills, vision, speech, memory, concentration, balance disorders. “There are workshops for the general public and workshops for patients” explains Eva Naudet, president of Sep’avenir. As for the question of the choice of Cannes for this festival, “let’s say that we wanted to highlight this disease, the leading cause of disability among young people and which affects 120,000 people…” smiled the president, pointing to the red carpet rolled out between the stands of the event.
For the record, it was Dominique Farrugia, sponsor of the event, who came to spend the day with the team that the microphone was extended: “We were, a few months ago, shooting for the TV movie “Murders on the Lérins Islands” which should be broadcast in September October with, I think, a preview in Cannes. We met, David Lisnard and me. I mentioned the association and its actions and he agreed to help us organize something.
The day was therefore punctuated by the animation of workshops to discover the symptoms but also of disability box, well-being and support care, by conferences and demonstrations on the visible and the invisible of this handicap.
