In Bulgaria, the flag of Ukraine was removed from the Sofia city administration building

In Bulgaria, politicians representing the nationalist Vozrozhdeniye party removed the Ukrainian flag from the building of the city administration of Sofia. Earlier, the deputies of the municipality of Sofia decided to hang the state flag of Ukraine there.

At the same time, the chairman of the Renaissance party, Kostadin Kostadinov, published a statement in which he noted that in political power they respect other people’s symbols and believe that the place of this flag is in the Ukrainian embassy.

He also stressed that Bulgaria is an independent state and Bulgarian flags should fly here.

At the same time, Kostadinov threatened the mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandykova, that she might be prosecuted for high treason if the Ukrainian flag reappears on the building.

In turn, the chairman of the capital’s municipality, Georgi Georgiev, called the actions of politicians from the Renaissance party “ugly behavior” and “encroachment on democracy.” Georgiev noted that the majority of deputies decided to place the Ukrainian flag, and added that the police are now conducting an investigation following this incident.
