Prince Harry is set to return to Britain in his first visit since revealing Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis.

A spokesman for the Invictus Games confirmed that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Thanksgiving Service at St Paul’s Cathedral on Wednesday 8 May, but it is not yet clear whether his wife Meghan Markle will follow him.

He is expected to deliver a speech at the event, which marks a decade since the games were established as a sporting event for wounded and ill servicemen and veterans.

The first visit since Kate’s cancer diagnosis

The visit comes as debate rages over the Duke being embroiled in a legal dispute over his taxpayer-funded personal security when he visits the Britain.

The visit is the first time the Duke of Sussex has been in the UK since his last 26-hour trip in February, following his father King Charles announced his cancer diagnosis.

Royal experts say it is ‘unlikely’ o Harry to meet with the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, who revealed her own battle with the disease in a video message to the nation last month.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams noted that Kate is “undergoing preventive chemotherapy and given how deep the gulf is, it seems unlikely to me” that the two will meet.

“The only hope for reconciliation is that it would happen privately and we wouldn’t know regarding it.”

However, the palace and royal family expert pointed out that a serious illness can sometimes “turn the tables” on family relationships.

Harry at the Invictus Games

A statement released on Invictus Games social media read: “The Invictus Games Foundation will celebrate 10 years of changing lives and saving lives with a ‘Thanksgiving Service’ at St Paul’s Cathedral on 8 May.”

“We will be joined by our patron Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, actor Damian Lewis and members of the global Invictus community to mark the occasion.”

Since 2014, the Invictus Games have become a popular global sports competition with 22 countries and more than 500 athletes participating.

It’s an incredibly important project for Prince Harry and one of the last legacies he has left from his time as a full-time royal – and one he’s very proud of. The races also allow him to reconnect with fellow military veterans.

Unknown what Megan will do

However, Megan is not mentioned. As the event is just two days following their son Archie’s five-year anniversary, according to the Daily Mail Meghan is likely to stay at home.

The couple lives in Montecito, California with their two children, Archie, four, and Lilybet, two.

Earlier this month, Prince Harry updated his US records to make it clear he no longer lives in Britain.

In her statement last month, Middleton revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer following “scheduled abdominal surgery” in January. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are understood to have been in touch with the Welsh royal couple “privately” following the announcement of Kate’s cancer diagnosis.

They also released a statement to Harper’s Bazaar magazine, saying: “We wish Kate and the family good health and healing.”

According to iefimerida, while in Canada last month, the Duke of Sussex also spoke to Good Morning America reporter Will Reeve regarding King Charles’ shocking cancer diagnosis, his life with his family in California, and his thoughts on becoming an American citizen.

The Duke of Sussex revealed he was “grateful” to see his father Charles III in person during a short 24-hour visit to the UK and hoped the diagnosis might have a “reunifying effect” on the royal family.
