According to data from the Brazilian Association of Electric Vehicles (ABVE), released on the CNN Brasil portal, in 2022, sales of electric vehicles reached the milestone of 49,245 units, considered a record for the sector.
This number represents an increase of 40%, compared to the year 2021 records, which reached 34,990 cars. However, despite the record, the numbers for 2022 still ended up below the target set by the association, which was to sell 50,000 electric cars in 2022.
With this expansion, the hybrid and electric fleet in the country increased by 126 thousand vehicles, with a diversity of 128 different models. Among these models, hybrid cars and light commercial vehicles (HEV), plug-in hybrids, PHEV and fully electric vehicles (BEV). Only in relation to the latter, 2022 ended with more than 8 thousand units registered.
The values of the models are varied, among those that have a lower cost are between 140 thousand reais and 260 thousand reais, depending on the chosen car.
The record set in 2022 has already been observed even before the end of the year. Until October 2022, the number of sales of electric vehicles, for example, electric carts and other models of electrified light vehicles, was already higher than the set of all months of the previous year.
Still, October was the 3rd month with the best sales in history, according to ABVE, when 4,460 vehicles received license plates.
Forecasts for the near future correspond to the growing percentage of sales in recent years. According to the projection of the National Association of Automotive Vehicle Manufacturers (ANFAVEA), published on the Summit Mobilidade portal, if national companies follow the trends existing in other countries, by the year 2035, it is expected that regarding two thirds of all vehicles sold in Brazil are electric.
Subsequently, what is expected is that the cost of vehicles will be lower with the increase in supply, which will encourage consumers and show the benefits of purchasing electric vehicles. In this sense, in terms of consumption, the cost per kilometer can be approximately 6 times lower compared to a gasoline-powered car, according to information from the Summit Mobilidade portal.
