In Bernardinai Garden – five objects by the sculptor Mindaugas Navakas | Culture

The exhibition “5 objects (2)” presented in Bernardinė Garden is inspired by the artist’s “Vilnius Notebook” (1981-1985), a series of sketches created using the photomontage technique. It presents impossible projects – combinations of sculptures and urban architecture, in which life-like, dynamic structures emerge as a contrast to the monotonous and pragmatic buildings of the Soviet era, asserting the invincibility of nature to the societal values of that era.

The new series of works by Mindaugas Navakas is characterized by its impressive volume and mass, expresses irony, provocation for both the space and the viewer, and continues the ideas previously nurtured by the artist.

The steel structures built in the busy city park disrupt the usual walk and encourage a reassessment of urban spaces and the change of values, drawing public attention to the relationship between man and the surrounding nature.
