Dhaka: Police said that 14 Hindu temples in northwest Bangladesh were vandalized overnight by unknown assailants. The idols of the temple were destroyed and some were found in ponds on the temple premises. The attacks took place in several villages between Saturday night and Sunday morning. Unknown attackers attacked under the cover of darkness.
Hindu community leader Bidyanath Burman said that no information has been received regarding the criminals. This area is a center of religious harmony and there are no problems with other communities. Thakurgaon police chief Jahangir Hossain told reporters that this was part of a planned attack to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere. He said that investigation has been intensified to find the attackers and strict legal action will be taken.
