The Baccarat luxury crystal factory, located in the eponymous town in Meurthe-et-Moselle, is inaugurating a new space, called the “Baccarat Collection”, retracing its history and know-how, while connecting to the territories through its location in the heart of the city. city.
Nearly 260 years of history and more than 600 works and objects are exhibited in a new space, at the former “jewellery center”, in downtown Baccarat, with an objective for the luxury house to open up to both to locals, but also to tourists.
“Baccarat lacked a place to be able to show, exhibit its collections,” notes Thibault Bazin, deputy for Meurthe-et-Moselle.
This space, which opens to the public on Tuesday, faces the church of this town of 4,500 inhabitants, in which an immersive tour showing behind the scenes of the Baccarat factory has been offered since the beginning of the summer.
Upon entering, black walls, sober lighting and a subdued atmosphere highlight pieces resulting from glass blowing dating from the years 1867 to 1878. Harcourt glass, created in 1841, is also on display, as is the service ordered for King Louis Philippe, partly revealed.
A colorama also shows “all the colors that the house was able to produce”, explains a guide.
There are also, on a “table of the greats”, services commissioned for the American President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the Russian Tsar Nicholas II, Prince Régnier and Princess Grace of Monaco…
Perfume bottles, like the very first Christian Dior, join the Sun Clock, commissioned by Arthur Miller and Marilyn Monroe around 1950. Pieces belonging to more than 70 personalities from around the world line the visitor’s journey.
Maggie Henriquez, general director of Baccarat, explains that a museum was already present near the factory. “But it was not a museum that reflected the pride that this place, today, brings us.”
Baccarat wanted to show “the know-how throughout this history but also the artists, and the strength of our clients, who were behind these orders”.
Always with a desire for territorial anchoring, this exhibition, set up in four months, called on at least “80% local companies”, explains Rémi Grosjean, deputy general manager of Baccarat.
At the end of the exhibition, the walls become white, the light more intense: recent pieces, created from the year 2000, are offered for sale, such as Zinédine Zidane’s left crystal foot.
