A member of the team of Russian UFC champion Islam Makhachev faces a fine of 300 Australian dollars ($208) for violating the ban on feeding wild animals, informs Perth Now.
Makhachev previously posted on Instagram (owned by Meta Platforms, the Tverskoy Court of Moscow declared the company extremist and banned its activities), and then deleted a video in which one of his friends feeds a quokka (short-tailed kangaroo) on Rottnest Island, 18 km from the coast of Australia. This is one of the few places where the quokka has survived in the wild.
It is forbidden to feed any animals on the island, as this can harm their health, and quokkas are a vulnerable species and should only eat what they get themselves.
Makhachev, who won the lightweight title in October, will defend his title once morest Australian Alexander Volkanovski on February 12 in Perth.
